Sierra Vista grew up beside Fort Huachuca, the historic Army post at the foot of the Huachuca Mountains that is now home to the Army’s intelligence training center and its network command. The fort and the defense contractors that support it are the backbone of the local economy, along with healthcare, retail and a growing retiree population drawn by the mild climate at about 4,600 feet.
