Things to do in Aiken

Aiken became a Winter Colony for wealthy Northern families in the late 1800s, drawn by its mild climate and sandy soil, perfect for horses. That tradition lives on today: Aiken is one of the country’s most important equestrian towns, with thoroughbred training, steeplechase, polo, fox hunting and eventing, and the Hitchcock Woods, one of the largest urban forests in the country, crisscrossed by riding trails.
