Things to do in Kailua-Kona

Kailua-Kona is the main town on the Big Island’s dry, sunny west coast, a former royal retreat where King Kamehameha I spent his final years. Today it is the island’s visitor hub, with a seawall town of shops, restaurants and historic sites, and the luxury resorts of the Kohala Coast stretch along the lava fields to the north. Tourism, Kona coffee, ocean sports, real estate and astronomy support jobs drive the economy, and the town is famous among endurance athletes as the home of the Ironman World Championship.
