Things to do in Beaumont

Beaumont is where the modern petroleum industry took off: the Spindletop gusher of 1901 turned a small lumber town into a boomtown and helped launch some of the most recognizable names in the oil business. Today the Golden Triangle of Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange is home to some of the largest refineries and petrochemical complexes in the country, along with busy ports and shipyards, while Lamar University adds engineering talent and academic depth.

Housed in a historic fire station, the museum displays antique fire engines and equipment, and its giant Dalmatian-spotted fire hydrant outside is one of Beaumont’s best-known photo stops.
