Things to do in Long Island
Long Island lives up to its name, a narrow strip of land about 80 miles long in the southern Bahamas, crossed by the Tropic of Cancer. Its Atlantic side has rugged cliffs and headlands, while the western shore faces shallow, turquoise flats and sandy beaches. Columbus called here on his first voyage in 1492, and the island’s settlements reflect a long history of farming, fishing and boatbuilding. Today it draws divers, freedivers, anglers and visitors who want uncrowded beaches and a genuinely local feel.
