Rapid City is the largest city in western South Dakota and the gateway to the Black Hills, one of the most visited regions in the American West. Tourism is a major industry, but Rapid City is also a regional center for healthcare, retail, mining and government, and Ellsworth Air Force Base, home to a B-1 bomber wing, sits just east of town.
