Things to do in Staunton

Staunton is a small, handsome city in the Shenandoah Valley whose Victorian downtown escaped major damage in the Civil War and remains remarkably intact. It is the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson, the home of Mary Baldwin University and the American Shakespeare Center, whose Blackfriars Playhouse is a re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theater. Tourism, healthcare, education and manufacturing support the local economy, and the surrounding farmland and orchards give the valley its rural character.
