Lansing is Michigan’s capital and, together with East Lansing, home to Michigan State University, one of the largest universities in the country. When to go. Late spring through fall is the best time to visit Lansing, with riverfront concerts, festivals in Old Town and the MSU campus at its greenest. Fall brings Spartan football, which fills hotels on home game weekends, along with color along the rivers. Winters are cold and snowy, and the legislative session keeps downtown busy for much of the year.
